Every pool loses water through evaporation, especially in Florida's heat. Here's how to tell the difference between normal loss and a real leak.
Florida pools typically lose 1/16" - 1/4" a day to evaporation. In summer or during dry spells, this can reach 1/4" a day. Factors: temperature, humidity, wind, sun exposure, and surface area all affect evaporation rate.
Use the bucket test to isolate leak loss from evaporation. Place a weighted bucket on your pool deck (level with the water). Mark both the bucket water level and pool level. After 24–48 hours, compare the drop. If the pool drops more than the bucket, the difference is your leak.
